MLS Laser Therapy for Back Pain
Targeted laser energy that reaches the deep tissue inflammation behind chronic back pain. Drug-free, surgery-free, and used by patients across Fairfax, Vienna, Reston, and northern Virginia.
Why your back keeps hurting
If your back has been hurting for months, it's not because you're weak or out of shape. The pain is your body telling you that something deep in your spine isn't moving right. A disc may be inflamed. A facet joint may be irritated. The muscles around it have probably tightened up as a protective response, and now they're part of the problem too.
Pain pills mask the alarm. Injections quiet it for a few weeks. Neither one addresses what's actually inflamed in the tissue. That's what MLS Laser is built to do.
How MLS Laser works on back pain specifically
The laser uses two synchronized wavelengths that go deep enough to reach the soft tissue around your spine. Once there, the light energy does three things at the cellular level. It boosts the cells' own energy production so they can repair themselves faster. It interrupts the chemical signals that keep inflammation going. And it improves blood flow so fresh nutrients can get in and waste can get out.
That combination is why patients with long-standing back pain often feel a difference in the first few visits, even after years of trying everything else.
What treatment looks like at our Fairfax clinic
Dr. White starts with an evaluation, not an adjustment. He listens to your history, examines how your spine moves, and orders imaging if needed. From there, he builds a plan around what's actually driving your pain.
Each MLS Laser session takes about 10 to 15 minutes. You lie down. The device positions over the affected area. You'll feel a comfortable warmth and nothing else. Most patients come in two or three times a week at the start, then taper as the pain decreases.
When MLS Laser is the right tool
MLS Laser is a strong fit if you have chronic back pain that hasn't fully responded to medications, physical therapy, or steroid injections. It's also useful as an adjunct alongside chiropractic care if your spine has alignment issues we need to correct.
If your back pain comes with sudden weakness, loss of bowel or bladder control, or numbness that won't go away, that's a medical emergency. We'll tell you straight if your case needs imaging or a referral before laser care.
Frequently Asked Questions
How fast will my back start feeling better?
Most patients notice some relief within the first three to five sessions. Bigger, lasting changes usually show up by session six to eight. We tell every patient up front: if you're not feeling real progress by then, we change the plan.
Does insurance cover MLS Laser for back pain?
MLS Laser Therapy is generally not covered by insurance. We'll discuss the cost and payment options openly at your first visit. Most patients find the price reasonable compared to the long-term cost of medications, injections, and missed work.
Will the laser session hurt?
No. The treatment is painless. You'll feel a gentle warmth on the treated area. Some people fall asleep during sessions.
How many sessions will I need?
Most full treatment plans involve six to twelve sessions, usually two or three times per week at the start. Chronic conditions may need a few more. Acute injuries often resolve faster.
Can I keep doing my regular activities during treatment?
Yes. There's no recovery from a laser session, so you can drive yourself home, go back to work, or run errands afterward. We'll usually ask you to avoid anything that aggravates the area during the first few weeks of treatment, but normal daily life isn't off-limits.
